Dingle Peninsula Drive

Dingle Peninsula Drive

Scenic loop best driven clockwise with the tour buses to avoid hair-raising passing.

Expect warm welcomes, foot-tapping trad sessions, and scenery that swings from dramatic cliffs to rolling green pastures. The loop below packs in the highlights yet leaves room for lingering over a pint by a peat fire.

Suggested itinerary

  • Morning coffee on Dingle Harbour, then set off clockwise on Slea Head
  • Stop at ‘Hold a Baby Lamb’ / Beehive Hut site – feed lambs & explore clocháns. The lambs are super cute, but the beehive huts are interesting as well. The owner often bakes different flavored breads. We bought a banana bread the day we were there.
  • Take your time. You are going to see some of the most beautiful vistas in the world in my opinion. There are many pull-outs for coastal panoramas; favourite is Ceann Sáíthe (Ceann Stáithe) lookout. You can do the full loop in an hour or so depending on how long you stay at each look out. You can add hikes and make a full day of the loop.
  • Lunch back in Dingle. Some spots include Murphy’s ice cream and fish-and-chips at Reel Dingle Fish.
  • Walk the picturesque streets and browse colourful shops & artisan craft galleries on Green Street.
  • Grab a pint and listen to trad at Dick Mack’s or Foxy John’s.
